Standing Committees

From Los Angeles ACM Chapter Wiki

The Chapter bylaws define the standing committees. These committees are a vital part of the management of the Chapter and each chair has a vote on Council.

Each standing committee chair can appoint committee members as necessary. The LA ACM bylaws provide that the Chapter Chair and Vice-Chair are ex-officio members of all committees. All meetings of any committee are open to all Chapter members, but if a member decides to attend a meeting, the committee must be notified in advance. A copy of the minutes of any committee meeting must be sent to the Chapter Secretary.

The effective management of a committee depends a great deal on the committee chair. Experience gained and procedures developed can help make this task easier and more effective. Major changes to working procedures of a committee can cause unexpected side effects elsewhere in the Council and hence should be discussed in a Council meeting.

The procedures in this section are for the standing committees. A careful reading of the Chapter Bylaws, especially Article III.E, Committees, is strongly recommended.

The following is an addendum to the original text of the main section introduction, for convenience in accessing the LA-ACM Wiki versions of the subsection procedures for each committee.
