Ad Hoc Committees

From Los Angeles ACM Chapter Wiki

The Chapter bylaws provide for the formation and dissolution of ad-hoc committees, to satisfy a short term goal, at the discretion of the Council. In addition, they define the Nominating and Audit committees, which are required annually. During each committee's existence, its chair has a vote on Council.

Each committee chair can appoint as many members as necessary. An exception to this is the Nominating Committee: the chair must appoint at least four members, to be approved by Council. The bylaws provide that the Chapter Chair and Vice-Chair are ex-officio members of all committees. All meetings are open to all Chapter members, but if a member decides to attend a meeting, the committee must be notified in advance. A copy of the minutes of any committee meeting must be sent to the Chapter Secretary.

The effective management of a committee depends largely on the committee chair. Since the ad-hoc committees are formed to satisfy a short term goal, procedures may not exist to help in the management of the committee, although there are procedures for the Nominating and Audit Committees. A source of guidance for any committee may be experience gained and procedures developed for this or a similar other committee.

The procedures in this section are for the current ad-hoc committees. A careful reading of the Chapter Bylaws, especially Article III.E, Committees, and Article VII, Nomination and Election of Officers , is strongly recommended.

The following is an addendum to the original text of the main section introduction, for convenience in accessing the LA-ACM Wiki versions of the subsection procedures for each office.
