I wanted to remind you that the paragraph below in the preface is not strictly true. I don't think Bologna has had any effect on our deliberatiosn and the new guidelines will not 'recognise such major developments and respond accordingly'
Further developments have also occurred. On the international scene vast changes are afoot. In Europe, for instance, the Bologna declaration was signed in 1999 as an intergovernmental initiative to bring about the European Higher Education Area by 2010; within this geographical area there would be comparability of standards and this would encourage mobility of students on a wide scale. An additional purpose of the Bologna was to improve and to promote European higher education. The number of countries who are signatories to that is now 45 and rising. Those involved in the review felt that it could not ignore such developments. The ACM and Computer Society guidelines need to recognise such major developments and respond accordingly.
